Endocannabinoids

These autacoids (auto=self; akos=healing) are formed by tissues in response to stimuli. The most active forms have the arachidonoyl chain attached to either ethanolamine or glycerol. A Special Issue of CHEMISTRY AND PHYSICS OF LIPIDS 2000, Vol 108, Iss 12 gave a comprehensive summary, and a special report in Alcohol Clin Exp Res 2002 Apr; 26(4): 565-74 described endocannabinoid actions relevant to alcoholism.
